About FormulaCompare
Side-by-side comparisons of supplements, OTC medicines, and skincare formulations — evaluated the same way, every time.
Why we exist
Walk into any pharmacy, supplement store, or skincare aisle and you'll face dozens of products claiming to solve the same problem. Magnesium glycinate, citrate, threonate, malate, oxide — which one actually helps you sleep? Tylenol, Advil, Aleve — which is safer for your back pain? Retinol, retinaldehyde, tretinoin, tazarotene — which retinoid should you start with?
Most "best of" articles online are either paid affiliate lists, thinly-researched blog posts, or one-brand reviews. FormulaCompare is different. Every guide we publish is a genuine side-by-side comparison: same framework, same evidence bar, same ranking logic.
Our mission is simple: help you pick the formulation that actually works for your goal, not the one with the biggest advertising budget.
Our six-factor comparison framework
Every supplement, medicine, and skincare comparison on FormulaCompare is evaluated on the same six factors:
1. Active form & bioavailability
Magnesium glycinate and magnesium oxide aren't the same thing — their absorption rates differ by an order of magnitude. We report the specific chemical form and how much of it your body can actually use.
2. Clinical evidence
We prioritize randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, and FDA-registered clinical data over mechanistic claims, rodent studies, and supplement-industry white papers.
3. Side effects & tolerability
Efficacy matters only if you can actually take the product. We quantify reported side effect rates, drug interactions, and who should avoid each option.
4. Cost per effective dose
A $15 bottle with 50mg of active can be more expensive per effective dose than a $30 bottle with 200mg. We report real cost per clinically meaningful dose, not per pill.
5. Availability & access
Prescription vs OTC, in-stock at major retailers, shipping restrictions, insurance coverage. A "better" option that you can't get doesn't help.
6. Fit for specific goals
Whey protein wins for post-workout recovery; casein wins for overnight muscle preservation. The "best" option depends on your goal — we explain when each option is the right pick.
